Yesterday I had the opportunity to view and sit on a 2007 BMW R1200GS with 60k miles on it for sale. The seller did all of the maintenance himself. He recently changed the oil, Replaced the O2 sensor, the final drive, coils, and it has an Ohlins suspension (both front and back).
It is an interesting discussion and many people may not realize that old BMW /2 (slash 2) back in the 50's and 60's from the R50 to the R69 held about 2 quarts of engine oil, had no oil filter and required service every 1,000-1,500 miles, they did have kind of a quasi filter called a slinger that required cleaning every so often but it was a difficult job that typically required removing theMark has owned four big BMWs and one KTM 950 in his Adventure biking days, and the 2007 R1200GS had seen some tough rides. By GS standards, his GS wasn’t worn out—not even close. It had 50,000 miles. But some of those miles should have counted double. He kepted careful track and could honestly document that 19,000 had been off-road.
